Question: Can a couple who is living together out of wedlock get married in church?

First of all, why is living together outside of marriage wrong?  Because it violates Scripture and God’s stated will for marriage.  Modern society, government, friends and even family may often condone or at least overlook the breaking of the will of God for marriage.  But God’s believing people would never want to do that, would they?

St. Augustine, a famous ancient church father, is quoted as saying: “You made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in you.”  That’s a rephrasing of Psalm 62:1, “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.”  We’re all “spiritual”.  Everybody is.  God has made us that way, body and soul.

Question: If my child attends a different Christian church, do I as a parent need to be concerned for his or her soul?

We raise up our children in our church.  We hope that they will stay with us, that is that they will remain in our same fellowship and confession, because we are convinced it is faithful to God’s Word.  Yet, sometimes as they turn into adults and make their own way and meet new friends or a spouse, they attach themselves to churches of other denominations...
