Midweek Advent Worship

Services held at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm with light dinner preceding the evening service.

Since the Eighth Century the Church has been using a set of prayers or antiphons to countdown the arrival of Christ at Christmas. Based on Old Testament prophecies and names for the Messiah, these prayers incorporate some of the most beautiful imagery and meaningful theology in our Christian heritage. According to the Latin addresses that start each prayer, these antiphons, whether deliberately or incidentally, form a backwards acrostic--a message given when the first letter of each title is taken. The titles for Jesus are: O Wisdom (Sapientia); O Lord (Adonai); O Root of Jesse (Radix Iesse); O Key of David (Clavis David); O Dayspring (Oriens); O King of the nations (Rex Gentium); and O God with Us (Emmanuel). Backwards these letters spell ERO CRAS Latin for Tomorrow, I will come. As we await with joy and anticipation the coming of our Lord in the flesh; in word, water, and meal; at ultimately as King and Judge, we long for the day when "tomorrow" dawns. Until that day we join the church in praying, "Come quickly Lord Jesus!"

Join us for our midweek Advent worship!

Wednesday Night Manna: 1 Peter

Sept 20 -  Nov 15

Wednesdays 6:00-7:30 pm

Wednesday Night Manna is one of our recurring Bible study events. It begins with a meal at 6:00pm for the whole family. Study begins at about 6:15. Children are taught an age appropriate lesson. Free babysitting is available.

Written to first century converts and subjects of persecution, Peter uses stunning pictures to remind them why the hassle, why the heartache is all worth it. It’s worth it because the Jesus in whom they believe is the Messiah of God come to build them into a spiritual house that will not fall. And Peter should know; after all he was present on the holy mountain to see this Jesus in all his heavenly splendor.

Prophets and Kings

September - November

Sundays 9:15-9:45 am or 10:45-11:15 am

Solomon. Elijah. Jonah. Daniel. These are some of the most famous and interesting figures in the Old Testament record. Their times were some of the most turbulent for God’s people. Nevertheless, through ordinary men and nobles, through turbulent times and good, God worked. He worked as he always does through word and people to convict and comfort, to tear down and build back up. Join us as we watch the hand of God in action through Prophets and Kings!

5th & 6th Grade Public School Confirmation

September 13 - April 25

Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm; Sundays 10:45-11:15 am

New this year we are adding a class to our catechism instruction for our youth! Recognizing that the teachings of God’s Word are told best by the stories of God’s Word, this class aims to give a Bible history foundation for the doctrine or teachings of Scripture as taught in Luther’s Small Catechism. Each part of the Catechism is paired with an appropriate story from the lives of God’s people so that through them your child may learn the age old question: what does this mean?

Public School Confirmation

September 13 - April 25

Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm; Sundays 10:45-11:15 am

Public school confirmation class begins September 13th!

Since the beginning of the Christian church the practice of confirmation has existed. Then it was a way to ensure against infiltration of their number by government spies looking to kill. Those who wished to become members of the early Christian church needed someone to sponsor them (the beginning of our practice of baptismal sponsors) and would undertake a year-long course of study which culminated on the Vigil of Easter (Easter eve) with their baptism, confirmation, and first communion. Now, we train our children in much the same manner out of reverence for the command of God to make disciples by teaching them to obey everything he has commanded. And just as was the case with the early church, upon completion of this course of confirmation we ask our young adults before God and witnesses if they intend to stay true to the Christian faith as they have come to know it and gladly welcome them into communicant membership!
